Woza Ngokushesha Bo, December!

After that dismal Psychology exam, and the hassle of losing my student card to that hungry vortex which Murphy so fatefully miscalculated, what I need is something to remind me that it’s just one bad day, and I will surely get over it.

While most people (read: most university students) would automatically turn to alcohol, hoping to find a rainbow at the bottom of some cheap brown bottle from the dive down the road, I have music, blogs and magazines.
Thank goodness for Elle and Seventeen- I’m getting my copies tomorrow. And if I can thumb through those with all this AMAZING South African music banging in my ears, I will definitely emerge stronger!

Here is a list of the latest videos from some of my favourite SA artists since- Well, I guess South African musicians have just been making such incredible progress in these last three years or so that I’ve forgotten who I used to listen to before!

There was JR, Morafe and Khuli Chana for 2009/10. Here they are all together again for what I am convinced is going to be a hit this summer:

Local comedian TolA$$Mo is just ridiculous in this video. And how’s that “Cow-casian” madam of his?

AKA is, as far as I’m concerned, the Man of the Moment. Possibly of the year. His music is that good.

I liked Victory Lap, All I Know is still a club banger as far as I’m concerned, and with Bang, he has just gone to some next level with his music!

Timelines were all a-twitter about that scene on the beach where that dog runs up and gives him a bit of a fright. Not that I blame him! I also like that the video shows just how real South African musicians are. None of this flashy cars, naked women and “bling” that even the so-called wholesome pop sensations from overseas shove down our throats every day.

I’ve always been a fan of TearGas, and their proteges, Cashtime Fam, are definitely going places:

They’re being trained well, because that song is almost as good as this one:

Almost.

And of course, I can’t forget about Jozi! Between “What’s With The Attitude?”, “Party Time” and the latest “Diva”, these guys are making the type of music that South Africa likes:

I’ll round off with a song whose title describes exactly how I feel about the music scene this festive season:

Can I just get my dezemba partying on, already?
